    Next time it happens, before closing photoshop, go into Finder and get the available space in the disk to see if the space is really being used. Make sure to do this before closing PS because the space will free up after closing PS. Let me know on this.

    I recommend getting an external SSD 2tb or higher and use that as a dedicated scratch and uncheck the system disk from the scratch disk options. Make sure to restart PS after making the changes too because the changes don’t become in affect until after restarting.

    When batching images that do a lot of work, PS can really eat up the scratch disk. If the batches use smart object, it uses a ton. Nothing I can do about that as that is just what PS does. So the dedicated SSD is the best option. Also, by uncheck the system drive, this put the wear and tear on the SSD and not the system drive. SSDs have a finite amount of read/write cycles so its a good idea to move the scratch to an externally just to not abuse the system drive.
