Did you uninstall the old version under the manage plugins menu in Photoshop?
If you manually install and leave the old CCX version installed, Photoshop will still use the old version sometimes.
Specifically, what was the message you were getting when you were trying to install the CCX file? Any issues with CCX files are a Creative Cloud issue. However, we might know what to do if you can give us the message.
