It not really an error. It is just photoshop being “helpful”.

It sounds like your template is 16 bit. The smart objects for SPA are 8 bit. There is pretty much ZERO reason to have the PSD template in 16 bit. JPG doesn’t support 16 anyway so when you save the image for print, the final copy would get saved as 8 bit JPG anyway making it pointless to have the template in 16 bit to start with.

If you just click yes the SPA should run the template fine. However, having the template in 16 bit will use a lot more ram and make SPA run slower.

So I recommend converting the template to 8 bit (Image>Mode>8 bit form the PS menu).
