    Yes, it Photoshop ends up with the same layer names then it will not know which one to choose. However, I think if you put the old ones on hidden top then it may work.  I believe it defaults to selecting the lower most layer in cases where there are layers with the same name.

    I still don’t think it is good practice to hoard a bunch of team build in a 9GB file though.  However, you may be able to force it to work if you store the old ones on top.
