Face Crop doesn’t change the resolution, It crops off pixels.

So the images are left with whatever is left over after cropping.   Then the PPI become just a function of math.

So in the second example you posted, the image has 1411 pixel x 2053 pixels left after cropping based on where the preset was set. The value of 128 is derived by the number of pixel left over divided by the print size you are asking for in the preset. So in this case you must be asking for somewhere around 11″x16″ in the preset?  So if you want to print 11″ wide, and you only have 1411 pixels wide after cropping, then that gives you 128 pixels per inch.

Now if you want 11″x16″ AND you want 300PPI then you can turn resampling on in the preset sand save the preset. However, this would need to UPSIZE to achieve that. So in this example, 11″ x 16″ at 300 PPI would need to upsize to 3300 x 4800 pixel in order to create an 11″ x 16″ print at 300 PPI.  So if you image only has 1411 x 2053 px left over after making the crop you want and you resize it to 3300 x 4800 px, then it will negatively affect the quality.

So this is why Face Crop DOES NOT resize your images.

Now lets do some easier math here with 8″x10″……

Say your image only had 800x1000px left over after cropping and your preset was set to 8″x10″, then it would save an 8″x10″ file at 100PPI.  If you changed you inches to 4″x5″ in the preset then you get a 4″x5″ file at 200PPI.  In either case, the file is the exact same quality and resolution at 800x1000px.

That is UNLESS you turn on resample and resave the preset… but again, you can’t force more pixel then it already has after cropping without sacrificing quality.

    Does this make sense?
