I think it’s fair to say there are certainly some dusty corners of the code base that have not been touched in a while. Scratch disk behavior and management seems like it’s one of them. We weren’t opening and closing thousands of files 10-15 years ago… but now we are. And photoshop’s management of scratch seems to be stuck in the dark ages.
Your suggestion is well taken. For a specific job, I should go in and make the job specific template into a batch ready one by flattening the static elements. That would take a 500mb+ template (as you said, sometimes even larger), and get it down to a reasonable size. I already have smart objects turned off.
Question: does a layered TIFF template behave any better? I know Don Ward has released some of his templates as TIFF instead of PSD/PSB…
